Cross cutting

Cross cutting is a technique used by editors to show two
pieces of action that are happening at the same time that together convey a
meaning to the audience.
Cross cutting only works if the two pieces of action makes
sense together instead of random pieces of footage.
In the example I created the two pieces of action used were
two people talking about the assassination of a man and the man trying to
escape from a building. As you can see these two pieces of action makes sense
together. It also creates more tension as we know what’s about to happen to the
man but we can’t do anything about it.
This creates a sense of hopelessness. Also cutting between the fast
paced action of the man running and the calm and still conversation shows how
much power these people have over the mans life. There is also a sense of mystery,
as we don’t know what the relationship between the two pieces of action is and
therefore keeps the audience intrigued.
